Eating Out: Tips

Eating out is an art. I know some people say that the term Foodie is just another way of saying one is a picky eater. But I would like to disagree. I've seen picky eaters and they don't eat anything. Foodies eat everything, at least once, and talk about it. Why the like it or why they dislike it. They'll talk about texture and presentation and really think and care about the food they are becoming one with, literally. Picky eaters are closed minded about food and Foodies are very open minded. I consider myself to be a Foodie and while I have much to learn I am glad to pass on my thoughts about food that I eat out. Having worked in the restaurant industry for a long time I also have many thoughts and opinions on how to behave when you are a guest in a restaurant. I will gladly let my voice be heard on this subject. So, as time goes by and I feel the need to rant or rave you'll be able to share in the experience. Let the fun begin!

Last night I served two young gentlemen from Canada some Absinthe.  One of them found it horrendous and wanted to chug it with his fingers clamping his nose.  It was a $25 glass of absinthe.  I told him to keep sipping it and talk about what you're tasting.  Eventually you will understand the allure of what you are consuming and though you may not enjoy it you can understand the complexity of the drink and appreciate it for what is alluring about it.  The moral here is keep tasting.  Think about what you're eating and once you understand why it is made how it is made you will appreciate it more.  Sometimes things are just shitty.  That's the fun of figuring it all out!
